1926/A 60 min.(silent)/Director: Teinosuke Kinose/Screenplay: Yasunari Kawabata
A Silent Film with a LIVE Performance by Shuichi Chino (Keyboards, etc.), Yoko Ueno (Vocals, etc.), Ayuo (Bouzouki, Guitar, Voice)
One of the masterpieces of early silent film, A Page of Madness, was filmed in Japan in 1926 with a screenplay by the novel prize winner, Yasunari Kawabata, and directed by Kinose Teinosuke. Behind a simple story of a man trying to take care of his wife who is locked up in an insane asylum, the film is interwoven with flashbacks, dream sequences, and the distorted visions of mental patients. Influenced by German expressionist films like "Dr. Caligari" and surrealism, this stands as one of the most innovative films in cinema history.
