CARLOS GIBBS”
———————————————————–
“I play records sometimes at night.”
A vinyl technician and producer, Carlos’ style reflects his passions and inspirations. Moving seamlessly across the constantly changing landscape of house music, it’s part deep groove, part ghetto funk and all Carlos. He has proven his ability to move a dance floor with his programming finesse, having played along side such seminal house DJ’s as Miguel Migs, Chris Lum, Jackson, Mark Farina, Felix the House Cat, and Roger Sanchez. The founder of Deep House Project (2001) and DHP Records (launched in 2003), he now unnleashes the funk worldwide with five releases in stores, and residencies in San Fransisco, Tokyo, Prague and Melbourne.
T-REK
———————————————————–
Try to imagine The Kills, Queens of the Stone Age, and The Beach Boys joined forces to make a disco album, with Chicken Lips and DJ Shadow at the production helm, Tom Waits on percussion, and Dave Grohl on drums. Throw in some of the crossover stylings of Beck or the Gorillaz, along with a healthy dose of ZZ Top, and you may just begin to get some idea of where Melbourne artist Tarek Smallman, a.k.a. T-Rek, is coming from.
A resident DJ at Melbourne’s ‘Revolver Upstairs’ nightclub for the past three years, he has also been a regular on the Australian live music scene as part of the band Bionikworld, as well as playing drums for other bands and artists including Something for Kate, bZARK, Ollie Olsen, and Kim Salmon.
