Carsten Nicolai (a.k.a. alva noto)

carsten nicolai, born 1965 in karl-marx-stadt, is part of an artist generation who works intensively in the transitional area between art and science. as a visual artist nicolai seeks to overcome the separation of the art forms and genres by trying to endeavor a holistic artistic approach. thus he seeks to overcome the separation of the sensual perceptions of man, e.g. by making sound and light frequencies perceivable for both eyes and ears to sensitise the viewer to the connection of the different sensory levels. further aspects of his works consider the integration of error and chance as well as the implementation of mathematical, physical or natural phenomenons and theories. special interest he also puts on so-called self-organizing processes, for example the growing of snow crystals.
"in my opinion the emphasis of self-generating processes is a reaction to the claim to plan everything. many of my works underlie a rule and introduce a model as organizing scheme to recognize chaotic movements. i am interested in both moments, they lie really close together. (...) the article active mutations of self-reproducing networks, machines and tapes (1996) by takashi ikegami and takashi hashimoto had a major impact on my work. they wrote about loop structures and self-organisation. loops get created by mathematical processes whose results at the same time are the source for new calculations. by constant re-calculating mistakes occur, build up changing patterns and become the origin of new intelligent processes." (cn) after his participation in important international exhibitions like "documenta x" and the "49th and 50th venice biennial", nicolai's works were shown in two comprehensive solo exhibitions at schirn kunsthalle frankfurt, germany (anti reflex) and at neue nationalgalerie in berlin, germany (syn chron) in 2005. in 2007 he had further extensive shows in zurich and new york. for several years now carsten nicolai experiments with sound under the pseudonym noto to create his own code of signs, acoustic and visual symbols. as alva noto he leads those experiments into the field of electronic music. besides performing in club and concert halls, nicolai also presented his audio-visual pieces at museums like solomon r. guggenheim museum in new york, san francisco museum of modern art, centre pompidou in paris, kunsthaus graz or tate modern in london. additionally he pursues projects with diverse artists such as ryuichi sakamoto, ryoji ikeda (cyclo.), blixa bargeld, michael nyman, mika vainio or thomas knak (opto).

INNER SCIENCE is a solo project of Tokyo-based Masumi Nishimura. he departed from narrowly-defined Hip Hop for the improvement in instrumental electronic music. Presenting perfect merge with beautiful melodies and colorful rhythms, INNER SCIENCE draw unprecedented attention in Japan and overseas. The activity as DJ is activated in parallel with many production and live performance recently, too. Ametsub acts based in Tokyo. 1st album [ Linear Cryptics ] has released from Progressive Form in 2006. Its album found a lot of response, and He played the live at sonarsound tokyo of which the origin is sonarsound of world's largest electronic music festival, His show by Game-Boy(NINTENDO) also attracts audience. He made the remix works of Clammbon and Tujiko Noriko and overseas artists. Clammbon - Re-Ame (Ametsub Remix). The participation in some compilation album. Afterwards, He co-starred with Vladislav Delay, Fennesz, Bichi (Blue Foundation), AOKI takamasa, Takemura Nobukazu, Tujiko Noriko and many brilliant artists.In 2007, He appeared on the stage of big music festival named "Sense of Wonder". His show that enchanted a lot of audiences was elected telecast of space shower TV, as a result, appearance on the stage to next year's same festival were decided. In summer 2008, He played the live in Laugavegur 22, Reykjavik, ICELAND ! As "Jimanica x Ametsub", the exclusive collaboration with Jimanica (d.v.d, world's end girlfriend) have started and released an exclusive EP called [ surge ]. They co-starred with PARA, clammbon, Furukawa Miki(supercar) and iLL, and they played the show on Nagisa Music Festival'08. Long-awaited the 2nd album [ The Nothings of The North] has released in Feb 2009. It has gotten an large evaluation from Ryuichi Sakamoto and mito (Clammbon) and Yagya etc. His most new work "The Nothings of The North" causing a big topic is picked on "The Best Disk of 2009" by Ryuichi Sakamoto, and license-release is decided from German long-established store label Mille Plateaux wonderfully in summer 2010. Now, it is recording hit-sales of the exception. And he appeared for a big festival called Nagisa music festival'09, Summer Sonic Festival'09. In new music festival called De La Fantasia, he co-starred with Yukihiro Takahashi, Keigo Oyamada(Cornelius), Ryoji Ikeda and Carsten Nicolai. His live-show caused a big reaction and obtained dazzling result to appear for a big countdown event with Mixmaster Morris and DJ Krush of 2009-2010. In spring 2010, he played a live with Jel(Anticon.) and DJ Krush on TAICOCLUB Festival (most important festival in Japan for electronica music) and also appeared on ZETTAI-MU Festival (biggest underground festival in Osaka) with Tha Blue Herb, DJ Kentaro etc. In October 2010, he played totally DJ in Tokyo on Oval(Markus Popp) Japan tour. An organically melody enchants a lot of audiences also in his live performance. The one and only, warm rhythm surely dances the listener. His music has dark beautiful original view of the world. It looks like to drawing the magnificent, impressive scene. The musicality gets great support from underground big fan. His style without deviating from the root of the electronic music... it is calling the big interest now.

Chihei Hatakeyama

Chihei Hatakeyama is a sound artist and musician living on the outskirts of Tokyo. He has performed for years under his given name and also as one half of the electroacoustic duo Opitope, along with Tomoyoshi Date. Hatakeyama polychromes memory-evoking soundscapes with various recorded materials of electric, acoustic instruments such as electric guitars, vibraphone, and piano. his releases is on Kranky, Room 40, Under the Spire, Hibernate Records, Magic Book Records, Home Nomal, OwnRecords and Spekk (as Opitope).

The activity concept as VJ is "HDVJ". The high resolution in real time generated can be enhanced even to the size of the film to say nothing of full HD(1920×1080). Goodness is pursued though it is assumed that the image expression is invariable in pioneering approach that uses the favor of the technology to its maximum.
