Come join us for the third installment of what is becoming a highly anticipated annual event. This year also marks the release on CD and limited edition vinyl of the 2011 performance by these three boundary breaking artists. Live: ##Keiji Haino + Jim O'Rourke + Oren Ambarchi, and more? Artist info: ##Keiji Haino ![/sdlx/120130-haino.jpg](/sdlx/120130-haino.jpg) [Homepage](http://www.fushitsusha.com/) ##Jim O'Rourke ![/sdlx/120130-jim.jpg](/sdlx/120130-jim.jpg) ##Oren Ambarchi ![/sdlx/120130-oren.jpg](/sdlx/120130-oren.jpg) Oren Ambarchi's works are hesitant and tense extended songforms located in the cracks between several schools: modern electronics and processing; laminal improvisation and minimalism; hushed, pensive songwriting; the deceptive simplicity and temporal suspensions of composers such as Morton Feldman and Alvin Lucier; and the physicality of rock music, slowed down and stripped back to its bare bones, abstracted and replaced with pure signal. Ambarchi has performed and recorded with a diverse array of artists such as Fennesz, Otomo Yoshihide, Pimmon, Keiji Haino, John Zorn, Rizili, Voice Crack, Jim O'Rourke, Keith Rowe, Phill Niblock, Dave Grohl, Gunter Muller, Evan Parker, z'ev, Toshimaru Nakamura, Peter Rehberg, Merzbow and many more. Since 2004 Ambarchi has worked with American avant metal outfit Sunn 0))) contributing to many of their releases and side-projects including their Black One album from 2005 and the recent Monoliths & Dimensions release. For 10 years together with Robbie Avenaim, Ambarchi was the co-organiser of the What Is Music? festival, Australia’s premier annual showcase of local and international experimental music. The festival hosted over 200 local and international performers. Ambarchi now curates the Maximum Arousal series at The Toff In Town in Melbourne and has recently co-produced an Australian television series on experimental music called Subsonics. Ambarchi recently co-curated the sound program for the 2008 Yokohama Triennale. (Jan 2012) Keiji Haino, Jim O'Rourke, Oren Ambarchi - IMIKUZUSHI ![/sdlx/IMIKUZUSHI-jacket.jpg](/sdlx/IMIKUZUSHI-jacket.jpg) The yearly summit of Keiji Haino, Jim O’Rourke and Oren Ambarchi continues with IMIKUZUSHI, which finds the group extending the power-trio strategies of last year’s highly praised ‘in a flash everything comes together as one there is no need for a subject’ (BT05) and bringing to them a newly sustained intensity. For this performance, Haino limits himself to electric guitar and vocals, forming complex networks of slashing rhythm work, noise squall and chromatic shredding, moving at times to near-silent passages of howled vocals and isolated, hanging guitar strums. The tendency towards driving free-rock which surfaced on moments of the trio’s last release is cemented here, with O’Rourke’s fuzzed-out, non-linear bass riffing moving the music into almost garage-rock areas, combining with Ambarchi’s drums to form a bedrock of hypnotic, metronomic pounding which transforms itself effortlessly into passages of flowing free-time. Like all of Haino’s best work, the trio transcends any ‘rock’ genre exercise to enter a non-idiomatic zone of ritual intensity, creating a music formed purely out of instrumental and group-mind possibility. Presented as four unedited excerpts salvaged from an epic show that lasted well over three hours, the sometimes raw nature of the recording only add to its directness and harshly emotive quality. (Francis Plagne, Melbourne, Nov, 2011) Released as a 6 panel digipak CD and as a limited edition double LP in a lavish gatefold with printed inner sleeves. Design by Stephen O’Malley with high quality live shots by Ujin Matsuo and stunning images by Tokyo based photographer and sound artist Shunichiro Okada.
