##The Mootekkis
The Mootekkis is a Tokyo-based 5-piece garage rock band formed in 2008 by American lead guitarist Jude Conlon and Australian frontman Mike Hannah. They were joined by Japanese band members Koji Iwata (rhythm guitar), Yocchan (bass) and Masafumi Sugiyama (drums) and due to their no-holds-barred, beer-fuelled rock ‘n’ roll, were soon sought after for remixes by local drum ‘n’ bass and electronica DJs. In 2010 they won Japanzine’s battle of the bands and since have released a self-titled EP, been heard on Tokyo’s InterFM 76.1 and in August 2012 embarked on a tour of New York, playing at Manhattan hot spots Pianos and Bower Electric as well as a handful of shows in Brooklyn basements and living rooms.

##Tarjei Zakarias Ekelund
Intertwine is the moniker of Tarjei Ekelund, a 23-year-old musician and producer from Norway. He was schooled in classical piano and trumpet as a child, but soon grew tired of the limitations of the instruments and started recording music in his bedroom. Today these experiments have produced a soft, dreamy electronica inspired as much by ambient as pop, and his devious lyrics are still soaked in the echoes of an old, rusty trumpet. After being given an up-and-coming award by Norwegian national radio in February 2012 the project has moved out of the bedroom and onto the stage.

##Bill Scholer
Bill Scholer is a blues player who comes our way from Northern California.   He has played in the Sacramento and San Francisco bay area with his band, The Bill Scholer Blues Band, and with The Barry “The Fish” Melton Band among others. Scholer has also opened shows for the likes of B.B. King, James Cotton, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, The Ventures, Elvin Bishop, J.J. Cale, Los Lobos, and Paul Butterfield.

##Nicole Berry
“Creativity is literally my life’s high and it doesn’t get any better than that for me.” California native Nicole Berry is a graduate in Film and Photography and draws no line between the two mediums. Cultivating an emotional connection to all of her subjects. Nicole is able to vividly capture energy to create highly styled images. She has worked with some of the world’s most renowned artists including Ryan McGinley, David Sherry, and Vanessa Beecroft. Clients to date include Playboy, GQ, Vogue, and Architectural Digest Magazine.

##Jeanann Dara
Jeanann Dara is a Brooklyn based artist in the field of performance encompassing a wide range of areas as a violinist, electronic composer, multimedia artist, and curator. She has developed a unique voice synthesizing her classical music training, high art, experimental music and performance. This&That Café was delighted to catch her on tour in Asia; her flight gets in at 4pm the day of the show!

##Jay Horinouchi
Born and raised in the Bay Area, California, Jay spent a couple years studying art in Napa County, then moved down to Southern California and graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena in 2006. He then worked as a professional artist and designer in Los Angeles for a few years before moving to Tokyo in the spring of 2010, and now is a member of the TokyoDex artist collective. Duality is a theme that Jay constantly explores with his art. Being Japanese American, there is a duality in thoughts, words and translation. He also receives a lot of his artistic inspiration from the Japanese
culture itself, and how that differs from his American life. His art is a mix of abstract watercolor and hyper detailed robot technology, constantly questioning the balance between man vs nature, old vs new.

##Toshiko Kimura
Toshiko Kimura creates art for various magazines, apparel, murals, products, and CD covers. Using a ballpoint pen, she creates black & white images of normal everyday things. Toshiko strives to find new discoveries and perspectives in an ordinary and mundane world. Humor plays a big part in her art as well.

##Unusual Club
Our musical style is very broad, hence the “Unusual” name. We typically play a back-to-back set. It sometimes creates discordances since our taste and mood can be different, but we appreciate the “wave” that results. Although our musical styles range from rock, indie, reggae, asl the way to dub, funk, jazz, new wave and hip hop, the common ‘roots’ that we often revisit are mostly electronic/techno/house. We have been regular DJs at SNIFF SNIFF (now
Roarrr) and CONTROL parties. Paul is English and Sebastien is French Canadian, both based in Tokyo for about 8 years.

##Kazuya Ito as toi whakairo
Graphic Designer / Web Designer / VJ
Ito is a designer as well as a DJ with the group Breakthough lead by RHYMSTER. A designer and artist, he work is deeply linked to the Japanese music scene. He produces SARASA press kit, the Japanese beat-music podcast “Cosmopolyphonic Radio”, and the free magazine “DESTINATION MAGAZINE.” He also works on apparel identity designs such as with ANACHRONORM×Kuumba. As a VJ, he has worked throughout the Tokyo event scene with artist such as LOW END THEORY JAPAN and tomy wealth.

##Bucket Drummer Gordo
Gordo is a 22 year-old street bucket drum artist from Australia. Since his arrival in Japan in 2009, he has been playing drum-and-bass bucket drumming throughout the streets of Tokyo.

At the age of 13, SLicklips(c) set her mind to becoming a beatbox artist. Self-taught and without any guidance, she scored her first gig at the age of 14 and has since performed in clubs throughout Osaka and Tokyo. To date she has collaborated with multiple artists and featured on innumerable DJ tracks. In 2011, she was one of the finalists in the popular Japanese competiton-based TV show “Hamonepu.” That same year, she was also crowned as Japan’s top female Beat Boxer and went on to compete in The World Beat Box Championship held in Berlin, Germany in 2012.

This&That Cafe is a free event open to the public in which artists from all genres and backgrounds donate their time and talents in the spirt of sharing. It is a place where music and visual arts meld in unexpected collaborations. A forum for artists from afar to meet with local luminaries amidst the dense and eclectic pool of talent in Tokyo. A venue to gather, exchange ideas, share artistic inclinations and wax poetic in a causal community of old friends and new acquaintances. Come early to get a seat and take advantage of the fetching fare on the SuperDeluxe menu, or just pop in for a drink on your way home from work. All are welcome.
