Robblerobble
ラッブルラッブル（Robblerobble）は作曲家／ベーシストのJohn Liljaによって結成された新バンドだ。5人組の彼らは自らの音楽を「サード・ストリーム・ストーナー・ロック」と呼んでいる。そのサウンドを例えるとしたら、もしもチャールズ・ミンガスが、ジョン・ゾーン率いるネイキッド・シティのソリストとブラック・サバスのリズム・セクションからなるバンドのために長い曲を作ったとしたらどうなるか、と表現できるかもしれない。Robblerobbleが拠点とするノルウェーのスタヴァンゲルは、Frode GjerstadやPaal Nilssen-Love、Per Zanussiの出身地でもあり、フリー・ジャズや即興／創作音楽の長い歴史を持つ街だ。Robblerobbleが他の即興アンサンブルと一線を画すのは、通作歌曲形式をとることで、ソリストひとりひとりの即興演奏に形を与え、各メンバーの個性を失わせることなく一体化された音楽表現になっているところだ。エレクトリックとアコースティックの楽器を混ぜ合わせた彼らのサウンドは、現代音楽の音使い、ジャズのハーモニー、そしてハード・ロックのヘヴィネスからインスピレーションを得て生まれている。

John Lilje（ベース）
1970年ニューヨーク州キングストン生まれ、バーモント州育ち。バークリー音楽大学でジャズの作曲を学び、1993年にマグネ優等生として卒業後、1997年に活動の拠点をスタヴァンゲルに移動。Frode Gjerstad、Arve Henriksen、Per Zanussi、Kjetil Møsterなど世界的に著名な音楽家と共演を果たし、レコーディングへも参加。ノルウェー放送協会 (NRK)とオランダのMetropole Orkestへ楽曲提供、カメルーンベーシスト、リチャード·ボナのためにビッグバンドのアレンジ制作など精力的に活動中。
Petter Frost Fadnes（サックス）
1974年生まれ、スタヴァンゲル出身。16才から定期的にヘヴィーメタル、スカ、即興音楽からジャズまで幅広く演活動を行う。1996年ジャズの学位をとるためにイギリスへ渡り、1996年パフォーマンスで博士号を取得。彼は活気溢れるリーズの音楽シーンで活躍し、現在イギリスのジャズと即興音楽の革新と定義される、リーズ即興音楽協会（LIMA）の共同設立者でもあり、2008年に活動の拠点を故郷に移す。主な活動は、The Geordie Approach (イギリス／ノルウェー)、The Thin Red Line (イギリス／ノルウェー)、Kitchen Orchestra (ノルウェー)。
Dominique Brackeva（トロンボーン）
ベルギーのトロンボーン奏者兼作曲家。オランダでジャズを学び、2000年から2009年の間アムステルダムに住んでフリーランスの音楽家として幅広く活動した歌手。2009年からノルウェーに移り住み、ジャズ、サルサ、バルカン音楽、ヒップホップ、シャンソンフランセーズに至る様々なスタイルで様々なプロジェクトに携わる。彼は多くの国で演奏活動を行いながら、スタヴァンゲル大学のジャズ·トロンボーンの先生としても活躍している。
Vidar K. Schanche（ギター）
1978年、ノルウェーのサンドネス生まれ。数々のロック・バンドでの経験を経て、2000年にイギリスのリーズへ移り、リーズ音楽大学でジャズを学ぶ。ジャズの修士号を取得した後、ノルウェーのスタヴァンゲルに戻り、すぐに地元の音楽シーンで活躍するようになる。音楽集団のKitchen Orchestraの一員となり、Alexander von Schlippenbach、Keith Tippet、Evan Parkerなど大勢のミュージシャンと共演を果たしている。また自身のバンド、EGG3で2009年にデビュー・アルバムをリリースし、2013年に２作目をリリース予定。その他にも、Pocket Corner、Extended Corner、Robblerobble、Gunhild Seims «Story Water»、Athana/Schance、Morten Abelなど数多くのバンドで演奏している。ロック・サウンドとエレクトロニック・エフェクト、そして即興音楽をうまく取り合わせることで知られるミュージシャンだ。
Ståle Birkeland（ドラム）
1981年ヴォス、ノルウェー生まれのドラマー。現在スタヴァンゲル在住。The Geordie Approach、Kitchen Orchestra、EGG3 (www.egg3.no)、 Pocket Corner、Maschinenfestung等のバンドに在籍。彼はノルウェーとヨーロッパを中心に広くツアーを行っており、ロンドンのICAでソロ作品「ラ·レイジ」（現代美術研究所）を演奏。
八木美知依トリオ
八木美知依（エレクトリック21絃箏、17絃ベース箏、歌）
邦楽はもちろん、前衛ジャズや現代音楽からロックやポップまで幅広く活動するハイパー箏（こと）奏者。故・沢井忠夫、沢井一恵に師事。NHK邦楽技能者育成会卒業後、ウェスリアン大学客員教授として渡米中、ジョン・ケージやジョン・ゾーンらに影響を受ける。ゾーンのプロデュースによるソロ・アルバム『Shizuku』（99年）を皮切りに、自己の箏アンサンブルとの『ゆらる』（01年）、17絃ソロ作『Seventeen』（05年）、インゲブリグト・ホーケル・フラーテン（b）とポール・ニルセン・ラヴ（ds）を迎えた『ライヴ！アット・スーパーデラックス』（06年）をリリース。06年にペーター・ブロッツマン（s）、ポール・ニルセン・ラヴとトリオを結成し、『Head On』（08年）と『ヴォルダ』（10年）をリリース。最新作はエリオット・シャープ（g）とのデュオ作『リフレクションズ』（10年）。08年、ラヴィ・シャンカール、パコ・デ・ルシアらと共に英国のワールドミュージック誌 “Songlines” の《世界の最も優れた演奏家50人》に選ばれる。Moers Jazz Festival（ドイツ）、Vision Festival（米国）、Kongsberg Jazz Festival（ノルウェー）、Újbuda Jazz Festival（ハンガリー）、Music Unlimited（オーストリア）、Instal（イギリス）等に出演。世界のトップ・インプロヴァイザーと共演するかたわら、プログレッシヴ・ロック・アーティストのスティーヴン・ウィルソン（Porcupine Tree）、アコーディオン奏者のcoba、更に浜崎あゆみ、アンジェラ・アキやTakuya（元Judy & Mary）といったJ-POPアーティストのレコーディングやステージにも参加。現在は本田珠也（ds）、田中徳崇（ds）、トッド・ニコルソン（b）、須川崇志（b）と結成した《八木美知依ダブル・トリオ》を活動の核とし、オリジナル曲を中心としたレパートリーを聴かせている。

Robblerobble
Robblerobble is a new band formed by composer/bassist John Lilja. This quintet plays what they call Third Stream Stoner Rock – what it might sound like if Charles Mingus wrote extended compositions for a band made up of the soloists from John Zorn’s Naked City and the rhythm section from Black Sabbath. Robblerobble is based in Stavanger, Norway, hometown to Frode Gjerstad, Paal Nilssen-Love and Per Zanussi, and is a city with a long tradition of free jazz and improvised/creative music. What separates Robblerobble from other improv ensembles, is that the band performs through-composed music which gives form to each soloist’s improvisation – a united musical expression where the individual doesn’t lose his unique voice. The band’s sound – a mix of electric and acoustic instruments – is inspired by contemporary music’s timbral vocabulary, the harmonies of jazz and the heaviness of hard rock.

John Lilje (bass)
Born in Kingston, New York in 1970 and grew up in Vermont. Lilje studied jazz composition at Berklee College of Music, graduating Magne cum laude in 1993 and moved to Stavanger, Norway in 1997. He has performed and recorded with a number of internationally renowned musicians, including Frode Gjerstad, Arve Henriksen, Per Zanussi, and Kjetil Møster. He has composed music for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK), Metropole Orkest in the Netherlands, and written big band arrangements for Cameroonian bassist Richard Bona.
Petter Frost Fadnes (sax)
Born in Stavanger, Norway in 1974. He has played regularly since the age of 16, performing within everything from heavy metal to ska, improvised music and jazz. In 1996 Petter moved to the UK to do a degree in jazz; eventually ending up with a PhD in Performance in 2004. He has been active in and around the vibrant Leeds music-scene and co-founded Leeds Improvised Music Association (LIMA); now defining innovation in British jazz and improvised music. In 2008 Petter relocated to his hometown to work as a freelance musician, while taking up a post at the University of Stavanger. Main projects are The Geordie Approach (UK/NO), The Thin Red Line (UK/NO) and Kitchen Orchestra (NO).
Dominique Brackeva (trombone)
Brackeva is a Belgian trombonist/composer/singer who studied jazz in the Netherlands and worked extensively as freelance musician while living in Amsterdam between 2000 and 2009. Living in Norway since 2009, Brackeva has been involved in a variety of projects in many styles, ranging from jazz, to salsa, balkan music, hip hop, and chanson française. He has performed in many countries and is also active as jazz trombone teacher at the University of Stavanger
Vidar K. Schanche (guitar)
Vidar was born in 1978 in Sandnes, Norway. After playing in various rock bands he moved to Leeds (UK) in 2000 to study jazz at Leeds College of Music. He later returned to Stavanger, Norway with a Masters in Jazz and quickly became part of the music scene. He is involved in the music collective Kitchen Orchestra where he has worked with Alexander von Schlippenbach, Keith Tippet, Evan Parker and many more. His own band, EGG3, released their debut album in 2009 and will release their sequel in 2013. He is also involved with Pocket Corner, Extended Corner, Robblerobble, Gunhild Seims «Story Water», Athana/Schance, Morten Abel and many more. Schanche is known for his mix of rock sound, electronic effects and improvised music.

Ståle Birkeland (drums)
Born in Voss, Norway in 1981. He currently lives in Stavanger, working in a variety of bands such as The Geordie Approach, Kitchen Orchestra, EGG3, Pocket Corner, and Maschinenfestung. He has toured extensively in Norway and Europe, and has also performed the solo piece "La Rage" at The Institute for Contemporary Art in London.
Michiyo Yagi Trio
Michiyo Yagi (electric 21-string koto, 17-string bass koto, voice)
Michiyo Yagi studied koto under the late Tadao Sawai and Kazue Sawai, and graduated from the NHK Professional Training School for Traditional Musicians. During her subsequent tenure as Visiting Professor of Music at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, U.S.A., she premiered numerous modern compositions for koto and came under the influence of maverick American composers such as John Cage, Christian Wolff, Conlon Nancarrow, and John Zorn. Yagi’s debut CD Shizuku was produced by Zorn and released on his Tzadik label in 1999. In 2001 she recorded Yural (BAJ/ewe) with her six-koto
ensemble Paulownia Crush; this group toured Russia under the auspices of the Japan Foundation in the fall of 2004. In 2005 Yagi released Seventeen (Zipangu), entirely performed on the giant 17-string bass koto. Live! at SuperDeluxe (Idiolect), a trio performance with Norwegians Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (contrabass) and Paal Nilssen-Love (drums), followed a year later. In 2008 Rikskonsertene, the national concert institute of Norway, sponsored a ten-city tour by the trio of Michiyo Yagi, the German saxophonist Peter Brötzmann, and Paal Nilssen-Love, a group that has been touring internationally since 2006. Head On (Idiolect, 2008) and Volda (Idiolect, 2010) both featured this trio. Yagi’s most recent release is Reflexions (Idiolect/Bomba 2010), a duo album with guitarist Elliott Sharp. Forthcoming CD releases include an ambient album co-produced by Eivind Aarset, a trio work with Lasse Marhaug and Paal Nilssen-Love, and a classical/contemporary recording. An eclectic performer who continually challenges conventions, Michiyo Yagi has performed at the Moers, Kongsberg Jazz, Punkt, Újbuda Jazz, Musique Actuel Victoriaville, Archipel, Bang on a Can, Tokyo Summer, Vision, Instal, and Music Unlimited festivals. Her collaborators have included Mark Dresser, Jim O’Rourke, Akira Sakata, Sidsel Endresen, Han Bennink, Eivind Aarset, Alan Silva, Kazutoki Umezu, Omoto Yoshihide, Ned Rothenberg, Knut Buen, Bugge Wesseltoft, Satoko Fujii, Joëlle Leandre, Håkon Kornstad, Tatsuya Yoshida (Ruins), Masahiko Sato, Carl Stone, Billy Bang, Keiji Haino,
Mats Gustafsson, and Sachiko M. Her koto has been featured in ex-Judy & Mary guitarist/singer Takuya's band, and she has recorded with neo-
prog rocker Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), pop idol Ayumi Hamasaki, and singer-songwriter Angela Aki. Michiyo Yagi currently leads the Michiyo Yagi Double Trio and the Michiyo Yagi Trio, and also perfon her original compositions.
