Conceived as a contrived response to Valentine’s Day, “White Day”
(March 14) in Japan serves only an an opportunity for men to return
the obligatory chocolates they received from female friends and
coworkers exactly a month after February 14. Far removed from its
Valentinian roots of passion and romance, this “holiday” is so
artificial that it may leave you asking, “where is the love?”. The
answer this March 14 is at This&That Café, where we don’t view things
in Black & White, but instead believe that life’s finest nuances fall
somewhere in between. So whether you are single or with that special
someone, leave the “giri choco” at home and come join us for a another
stellar evening of live music, dance, painting and projections that
have come to define the #TnTCafe signature style. Who knows, you just
might find some real love in the gray zone.

The Watanabes
The Watanabes are an international indie pop band performing and
recording in Tokyo. They enjoy drinking banana juice together and are
keen students of Ikebana. The band began life in the orange-laden
prefecture of Ehime, and named themselves Watanabe in tribute to the
warm and friendly people of the region, whilst also alluding to
British indie favourites The Smiths.Three years later, they packed up
and shifted to Tokyo in search of new inspiration and regular trains.

The Molice
Not-to-be-messed-with singer Rinko and guitarist Yuzuru match their
love of conceptual bands with the edginess of their favorite movie,
Blade Runner.

Tecimerico
Tecimerico was formed in Tokyo in 2009. Our sound combines a cinematic
atmosphere with a catchy pop feel, including elements of
post-classical music and electronica. Using a unique combination of
modern and classical instruments to express our particular view of the
world, we put everything we have into our performances.

Masaki Murata (-Muratap Masaking-)
Masaki Murata was born in Kurokawagun Tomiyamachi, Miyagi-Ken. In 1991, when he was in the 5th grade, Masaki performed for the first time in front of an audience to the sounds of MC Komiya, a famous comedian celebrity at the time. Masaki began learning street dance in high school. He was inspired by the culture of HIPHOP dancing and began to attend club events on a weekly basis. At 24, Masaki encountered tap dancing and it has been his prime passion ever since.

Frankie Cihi(Live Art)
Born in Tokyo ’88. Received BFA from. School of Visual Arts ’10, New
York. Lives and works in
Tokyo. “My paintings reflect the transient and transparent nature of
the subconscious. I find the human brain to share functional as well
as physical traits with sea anemones, and the human anatomy with
various sea organisms. Flexible like water, cognition evolves as we
adapt to rapidly changing environments. Vast like the ocean, our
memory stores visual and emotional experiences in multidimensional
layers. My aesthetic is a hybrid of different moments in art history,
such as 17th century Japanese Rinpa paintings, crossing borders and
time frame to Impressionism, Art Nouveau, and Surrealism in the late
1800′s – early 1900′s, and finally to street art in the current day
and age. Through the use of aquatic imagery, improvised drawing and
coloring techniques, as well as a combination of traditional and
graphic styles, I want to reinforce and reinterpret the value of one’s
own personal identity.”

Luise Ono
Originally from Hiratsuka City in Kanagawa Prefecture, Luise creates
mainly decorative and live paintings all over town and in the Tokyo
club scene. She also creates murals for cafes and restaurants, and
directs in-store displays for apparel brands. She has taken part in
the Shibuya Art Festival through the exhibition of work inside of the
“Aogaeru” train located in Hachiko square. She’s currently a part of
the artist collective “trip art gallery”, which focuses on exhibiting
energetic experiences by combining music, art, and space design.

Maiko Miyagawa
Photographer Maiko Miyagawa started taking photos as a high-school student and would later go on to study photography at the Nihon Univerity College of Art. Upon graduation she worked as an assistant for renowned photographer Hidemi Seto and began her solo career in 2003. Today she takes photos of live events including theater, dance and music for magazines, printed advertisements, album covers et al.

Tokyo-based visual artist D.H. Rosen loves to play with analog and digital media. His live sets are a combination of prepared digital imagery and spontaneous collage.

This&That Cafe is a free event open to the public in which artists from all genres and backgrounds donate their time and talents in the spirt of sharing. It is a place where music and visual arts meld in unexpected collaborations. A forum for artists from afar to meet with local luminaries amidst the dense and eclectic pool of talent in Tokyo. A venue to gather, exchange ideas, share artistic inclinations and wax poetic in a causal community of old friends and new acquaintances. Come early to get a seat and take advantage of the fetching fare on the SuperDeluxe menu, or just pop in for a drink on your way home from work. All are welcome.
