Nonclassical - the groundbreaking club night and record label which has been revolutionizing London's classical music scene for 10 years - arrives in Tokyo to launch a new music series in collaboration with SuperDeluxe exploring unexpected links between the two cities. Traversing the common ground between contemporary classical and electronic soundscapes, this night features Premieres and Asian Premieres from Nonclassical founder Gabriel Prokofiev, the exciting Tansy Davies, and avant-electronics guru John Richards. Alongside new work from Nonclassical's Sam Mackay and James Greer we're thrilled to host violinist Aisha Orazbayeva, one of Europe's most exciting young musicians who will be performing a headline set including Steve Reich's epic Violin Phase, Iannis Xenakis and more. Representing Tokyo are virtuosic performances and new music from Emiko Miura, Shohei Amimori, and brain-shatteringly intense free improvisation from Atsuko Hatano. Headlining the bill is a once in a lifetime DJ set from Keiji Haino. Nine years ago Haino performed a one-off seven hour DJ set of purely medieval music at SuperDeluxe, which has become the stuff of legend. After a long wait, this will be only the second time he has performed in this guise so we can expect more than a few surprises. Direct from London, the Nonclassical resident DJs are our hosts for the evening, spinning Nonclassical label favourites, leftfield electronica, glitch, and premieres of brand new remixes. Aisha Orazbayeva: Steve Reich Violin Phase, Iannis Xenakis Mikka, Sciarrino Caprices, Improvisation  Aisha is a Kazakh-born violinist based in London, whose performances of music by composers as varied as Lachenmann, Reich, Telemann and Sciarrino have won her wide-ranging acclaim. As a soloist she's graced venues including Wigmore Hall in London, Carnegie Hall in New York and Radio France in Paris. A regular collaborator with VCS3 Synth pioneer Peter Zinovieff, she's released albums on Nonclassical and recently PRAH, a record in which she dismantles and reconstructs the violin sound. Sam Mackay: New Work (Premiere)  Sam is a musician and contemporary music curator active in London's alt-classical scene. On top of his long involvement with Nonclassical he co-founded the London Contemporary Music Festival in 2013. We're excited to welcome a rare performance from him, featuring a new site-specific piece for oscillators and noise generators. Emiko Miura: G.Prokofiev Selections from Piano Book No. 1, John Richards Suite for Piano and Electronics (Asian Premieres)  Tokyo and London-based pianist Emiko has performed at many venues including NY Carnegie Hall and Bristol Cathedral. In 2014, she has attended ensemble projects with the principal players of Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra. She'll be performing music from the Nonclassical label, from founder Gabriel Prokofiev and John Richards (Dirty Electronics). Atsuko Hatano: The Scream of the Rock Barnacle (Premiere)  Atsuko is a Tokyo-based violinist, 5-sting viola player, cellist and improviser. A regular in the improv scene, she presents the premiere of her new 'cellular' project stitching together raw molecular pieces into new entities. Shohei Amimori: New Work (Premiere)  (Music Competition Japan 2013 composition 1st Prize; J-Wave Radio Sakamoto finalist; Messiaen Prize, Academie de Musique Francaise, Kyoto 2013), presents the Premiere of New Work and showcase of his work as a glitch/electronics producer. He'll be performing the John Richards Suite for Piano and Electronics and New Work exploring and 'remixing' relationships between physical/digital worlds.
