フェネスはギターとコンピューターを用いて、揺らめき、渦を巻くような、レンジの広い、複雑な音楽性を持った音を作り上げます。「陳腐な表現や、あらゆる物理的限界とは無縁のエレキギターの音を想像してほしい、そこには大胆で新しい音楽の言語が形作られているのだ」 -(City Newspaper紙、アメリカ)。彼のみずみずしく、輝くような作品には、得てして独創性に乏しくなりがちなコンピューター上での単なる実験からは程遠く、まるで、熱帯雨林の昆虫や自然の大気現象を望遠鏡で覗いたかのような繊細な風景を録音したもののようであり、固有のナチュラリズムが宿っていると言えるでしょう。

ジム・オルーク

1969年シカゴ生まれ。Derek Baileyの音楽と出会い、13才のジム少年はロンドンにBaileyを訪ねる。ギターの即興演奏に開眼し実験的要素の強い作品を発表、John Faheyの作品をプロデュースする一方でGastr Del SolやLoose Furなど地元シカゴのバンドやプロジェクトに参加、「シカゴ音響系」と呼ばれるカテゴリーを確立する。一方で、小杉武久と共に Merce Cunningham舞踏団の音楽を担当、Tony Conrad、Arnold Dreyblatt、Christian Wolffなどの作曲家との仕事で現代音楽とポストロックの橋渡しをする。1998年超現代的アメリカーナの系譜から『Bad Timing』、1999年、フォークやミニマル音楽などをミックスしたソロ・アルバム『Eureka』を発表、大きく注目される。1999年から2005年にかけてSonic Youthのメンバー、音楽監督として活動し、広範な支持を得る。2004年には、Wilcoの『A Ghost Is Born』のプロデューサーとしてグラミー賞を受賞、現代アメリカ音楽シーンを代表するクリエーターとして高く評価され、ヨーロッパでも数々のアーティストをプロデュースする。また、日本文化への造詣が深く、近年は東京に活動拠点を置く。日本でのプロデュース・ワークとしては、くるり、カヒミ・カリィ、石橋英子など多数。坂田明、大友良英、山本精一、ボアダムスなどとの共同作業や、武満徹作品『コロナ東京リアリゼーション』(2006)など現代音楽に至る多彩な作品をリリースしている。映像作家とのコラボレーションとしてWerner Herzog、Olivier Assayas、青山真治、若松考二などの監督作品のサウンドトラックを担当。ジム自身も映画監督として活動しており、彼の作品は、2004年と2006年にはホイットニー・ビエンナーレ、2005年にはロッテルダム映画祭で「重要作品」として上映されている。ソロとしての最近作『The Visitor』(2009)は『Bad Timing』の現代版と言える密室的ワンマン・アルバムの極致と言える。新しい「知」の探求者としてオルタナティヴ、ポストロック、エクスペリメンタル・ポップ、映画音楽、フリー・ミュージック、ジャズ、アメリカーナ、現代音楽など様々なジャンルの極北を切り開く越境的活動を行ない「現代東京カルチャー」の先導者となりつつある。

PITAはエディションズ・メゴの創設者、ピーター・レーバーグのステージ名。ロンドン生まれの彼は、ウィーンに数十年住んだ後、いわゆるラップトップミュージックの芸術的可能性が発見されようとしていた20年前に、キャリアをスタートさせました。PITAはその時以来、コンピューターを使った制作を開始し、シンセティック・ミュージックの先駆者の1人として国際的に認められています。彼の音楽的バックグラウンドは、ノイズやアンビエント、テクノと同時に、初期のエレクトロ・アコースティックにも見出すことができます。PITAは、10年近くもの間沈黙を守った後にソロ活動に復帰し、現在は音響実験の次の段階の先頭を走っています。彼の音楽に対するアプローチはそれほど変わっていません。それは、過激なマニアによる絶え間ない探求であり、私たちを実験的エレクトロ音楽の海岸線へと導いてくれるのです。この音楽は、直感的シンセシス、あるいはテクノの環境の奥底での探索と表現するのが、恐らく一番合っているでしょう。彼は歪んだ電子音と抽象的なビートのパターンやグリッジを融合させることで、ある種の過激なコンピューターミュージックを作り、周波数帯域を超えた音を探し求め、音の弾みに注意を払うのです。ソロのミュージシャンとしての活動を休止していたとはいえ、レーバーグは自身の音響的探求を止めていたわけではありません。過去10年間、彼はFenn’O’Berg (ジム・オルークとクリスチャン・フェネスとの活動)やKTL (Sunn O)))のスティーブン・オマリーとの活動)、R/S (マーカス・シュミックラーとの活動)、彼の最新プロジェクトのShampoo Boy (クリスティーナ・ネメックとクリスチャン・シャーチンガーとの活動) などのコラボレーション活動に重点を置いていました。これら数多くのコラボレーション活動の主軸となっていたのは、なんといってもフランスの舞台演出家のジゼル・ヴィエンヌとの長きにわたる活動でしょう。現に彼女の多くの作品には、レーバーグの作品が使われています。
PITAはこれまで十数枚のアルバムを制作し、驚くほど幅広い実験的電子音楽のスタイルをカバーしており、Get Out / Get Down / Get Offの三部作などのLPは、幅広い国々の批評家から称賛され、MEGOやTouch、Häpnaなどのレーベルからリリースされました。彼はSONARやATP(オール・トゥモローズ・パーティーズ)、CTMベルリン、MUTEK、ドナウ・フェスティバルなど、様々な国際フェスティバルで演奏しています。
また音楽シーンに多大な影響を与え続けるエディションズ・メゴ系列のレーベルの代表者として、彼はフェネスやケヴィン・ドラム、エメラルズ、フロリアン・ヘッカー、ベルナール・パルメジャーニ、ラッセル・ハズウェル、KTL、アコス・ロズマン、ドナート・ドジー、ビル・オーカット、マーク・フェル、その他の多くの国際的に有名なアーティストの作品をリリースしてきました。

Fennesz uses guitar and computer to create shimmering, swirling electronic sound of enormous range and complex musicality. "Imagine the electric guitar severed from cliché and all of its physical limitations, shaping a bold new musical language." - (City Newspaper, USA). His lush and luminant compositions are anything but sterile computer experiments. They resemble sensitive, telescopic recordings of rainforest insect life or natural atmospheric occurrences, an inherent naturalism permeating each piece.

Jim O'Rourke

Born 1969 in Chicago. O’Rourke encountered the music of Derek Bailey as youngster and began visiting him in London at the age of 13. Eyes opened to the power of improvisational guitar, he released several of his own highly experimental works and has worked closely with John Fahey and Loren Mazzacane Connors. During his long association with the Chicago experimental and improv scene O’Rourke participated in several bands and projects including Gastr Del Sol and Loose Fur. His work with Takehisa Kosugi music director of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company as well as Tony Conrad, Arnold Dreyblatt, Christian Wolff and others built bridges between contemporary and popular music. O’Rourke’s release of landmark albums Bad Timing and Happy Days in 1997 and Eureka in 1999 garnered much attention. From 1999 to 2005 he was a member of Sonic Youth, playing bass, guitar and synthesizer as well as recording and mixing the band. In 2004 he won a Grammy Award for his production of Wilco’s A Ghost is Born. O’Rourke has also earned a loyal following for his participation in numerous albums by various artists around the world. He has a deep knowledge of Japanese culture and currently lives in Tokyo. Some of his many production credits in Japan include Quruli, Kahimi Karie, and Eiko Ishibashi. He also continues to be a consummate collaborator, working with Akira Sakata, Merzbow, Yoshihide Otomo, Seiichi Yamamoto, Boredoms and others. His recordings of Toru Takemitsu’s Corona for pianists Tokyo Realization was awarded the Agency for Cultural Affairs Arts Festival Award for Excellence in 2006. He has also scored films by Werner Herzog, Olivier Assayas, Shinji Aoyama, Koji Wakamatsu and others. His own short films have been part of the 2004 and 2006 Whitney Biennial and the 2005 Rotterdam Film Festival. O'Rourke is a diverse and powerful artist. Always searching, his borderless activity goes beyond the common labels Alternative, Post-rock, Experimental-pop, Film music, Free music, Jazz, Americana, Contemporary music and continues to defly classification.

PITA is the pseudonym of Editions Mego founder Peter Rehberg. The London native, since decades residing in Vienna, began his career 20 years ago when the aesthetic possibilites of so-called Laptop music were just about to be discovered. PITA started working with computers since then and is internationally perceived as one of the pioneers of synthetic music. His musical background is to be found in Noise, Ambient and Techno, as well as early electroacoustics. PITA ushers now the next phase of his sonic experimentation, returning as a solo act after almost ten years of silence. His approach to music hasn't changed much though – it's the ongoing search of a radical maniac that is driving us to the shores of experimental electronics, maybe best to be described as visceral synthesis, fshing in the ambient depths of techno. He is fusing distorted electricity with abstract beat patterns and glitches to some form of extreme computer music, exploring the outskirts of frequency range and pays attention to a sonic momentum. Even though he took a break as a solo musician, Rehberg never stopped his sonic exploration. Over the last years he was focussing on his collaborative work, as in Fenn’O’Berg (w/ Jim O’Rourke and Christian Fennesz), KTL (w/ Sunn O)))s Stephen O'Malley), R/S (w/ Marcus Schmickler), or his latest project Shampoo Boy (w/ Christina Nemec and Christian Schachinger). These musical collaborations are completed by his longtime cooperation with the French theatre director Giséle Vienne, whose opulent pieces are accompanied by Rehberg's compositions. PITA has produced over a dozen albums, covering an astonishing variety of experimental electronic styles, LPs like the Get Out / Get Down / Get Of trilogy have received broad international critical acclaim and were released on such labels as Mego, Touch, Häpna etc. He played various international festivals, like SONAR, All Tomorrows Parties, CTM Berlin, MUTEK and Donaufestival. As head of the infuential Editions Mego family of labels, he has released albums by internationally renowned artists like Fennesz, Kevin Drumm, Emeralds, Florian Hecker, Bernard Parmegiani, Russell Haswell, KTL, Akos Rozmann, Donato Dozzy, Bill Orcutt, Mark Fell and many more.

Klara Lewis

Klara Lewis is a Swedish composer born 1993. Her critically acclaimed debut album Ett was released by Viennese record label Editions Mego in 2014. “[...] Ett is the work of a gifted and thoughtful sound sculptress, who combines found sounds, field recordings and electronic textures to create beguiling and resonant works that operate on all manner of levels.” (Joseph Burnett, The Quietus) “The way [Lewis] manipulates these recordings of her own surroundings is expressive and intuitive, and the music sparkles with personality despite its sparseness.” (Rory Gibb, The Wire) Lewis is studying her second year of a bachelor degree in Audio-visual Production. Lewis is currently collaborating with Simon Fisher Turner and Rainier Lericolais.
