Live: Platform - Xavier Charles (France) clarinet, Jonas Cambien (Belgium) piano, Katrine Schiøtt (Norway) cello, Jan Martin Gismervik (Norway) drums Artist Information: Platform ![/sdlx/151130-platform.jpg](/sdlx/151130-platform.jpg) Platform is a band playing acoustic, free improvised music. It's a meeting between three young musicians from Oslo's scene for improvised music and a French improvising veteran. Platform started out as a trio of Jonas Cambien, Jan Martin Gismervik, and Katrine Schiøtt in 2011, and started to collaborate with Xavier Charles in 2012. After some years of performing in Scandinavia, New York, Spain, and Portugal, they released their debut album Anthropocene in 2015. Platform explores slowly changing textures, elastic sonic sculptures and meditative drones. Small ideas get all the time and space they need to develop and be fully played out. Using prepared piano, minimalistic percussion, extended techniques on clarinet and cello, Platform creates abstract and cinematic sheets of sound. Sometimes dark and noisy, sometimes light and dreamy, with an occasional hint to a groove or melody. All the music is fully improvised and the band's style was developed exclusively trough live performances. Platform [official website](http://www.ppllaattffoorrmm.com) Platform [soundcloud](https://soundcloud.com/platformisme) Xavier Charles (France) - clarinet The work of clarinetist Xavier Charles ranges from noise to electro-acoustic via sound poetry. He has played in numerous new music fesivals in France and abroad. Charles collaborates with both Jacques Di Donato and Frederic Le Junter. In his work with groups and collectives, he has also collaborated with Martin Tetrault, The Ex, Peirre Berthet, Etage 34, Axel Dörner, Jérôme Jeanmart, John Butcher, Jean Pallandre, Marc Pichelin, otomo Yoshihide, Tim Hodgkinson, Camel Zékri, Emmanuelle Pellegrini, Michel Donéda and Frédéric Blondy. Different collectifs (Kristoff K.roll, No Spaguettitti Edition, chris burn ensemble). Currently his musical research ranges from performance on the clarinet to the installation of vibrating speakers, at the edge of improvised music, noisy rock and electro-acoustic sound. He's deeply involved in the music world as an organizer of the fesival "Densités". Jonas Cambien (Belgium) - piano Jonas Cambien (b.1985) is a belgian pianist and improviser, active on the Norwegian scene for improvised and contemporary music since his move to Oslo in 2008. His main projects include Platform, Unbird, a trio with Christian Winther and Per Oddvar Johansen, and the experimental rockband Karokh. He also performs solo and with Askiom, an oslo-based ensemble for new music. Jonas holds a Master's degree in classical piano from the Royal Conservatory in Brussels where he studied with Jan Michiels. At the moment he is finishing a Master's degree in Jazz and Improvised music at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. Katrine Schiøtt (Norway) - cello Exploring and experimenting with her cello, Katrine Schiøtt has made her own unique sound. She appears in many different genres of music and constellations, projects and collaborations. Even though based in Oslo, Norway, the music has also taken her touring with artists such as Angus and Julia Stone from Australia (winner of ARIA awards and Triple J’s awards 2010), and Moddi (five nominations and the winner of the category "Årets Vise" in Norwegian Grammys "Spellemannprisen" in 2013, double Norwegian Grammy nominated in 2011). Katrine appears in many different studio recordings, working in studios in Europe, Australia, New York and Norway, such as; Valgeir Sigurðson's Greenhouse Studios (Reykjavik, Iceland), Domicile/ All Things Audio (New York), Desert Harvest Studios (Byron Bay, Australia), Plug & Play Studios (Nyon, Switzerland), Rainbow Studios (Oslo), Propeller Recordings (Oslo), Ocean Sound Recordings (Giske), Is It Art Studio (Sweden), Boulder Studios (Bern, Switzerland). She contributes on recordings with among others ANGUS STONE - "Broken Brights" (AUS/US), MODDI - ""Kæm va du?", "Set The House on Fire" and "Floriography", and THERESE AUNE - "Billowing Shadows Flickering Light". Jan Martin Gismervik (Norway) - drums Jan Martin Gismervik is a drummer from Karmøy. He is currently living in Oslo, and is part of the improvised-music scene.
