灰野敬二
1952年5月3日千葉県生まれ。アントナン・アルトーに触発され演劇を志すが、ザ・ドアーズに遭遇し音楽に転向。ブラインド・レモン・ジェファーソンをはじめとする初期ブルースのほか、ヨーロッパ中世音楽から内外の歌謡曲まで幅広い音楽を検証し吸収。1970年、エドガー・アラン・ポーの詩から名を取ったグループ「ロスト・アラーフ」にヴォーカリストとして加入。また、ソロで自宅録音による音源制作を開始、ギター、パーカッションを独習する。1978年にロックバンド「不失者」を結成。1983年から87年にかけて療養のため活動休止。1988年に復帰して以来、ソロのほか不失者、滲有無、哀秘謡、Vajra、サンヘドリン、静寂、なぞらない、The Hardy Rocksなどのグループ、experimental mixture名義でのDJ、他ジャンルとのコラボレーションなど多様な形態で国際的に活動を展開。ギター、パーカッション、ハーディ・ガーディ、各種管弦楽器、各地の民間楽器、DJ機器などの性能を独自の演奏技術で極限まで引き出しパフォーマンスを行なう。170点を超える音源を発表し、確認されただけでも1500回以上のライブ・パフォーマンスを行なっている。

ジム・オルーク
1969年シカゴ生まれ。Derek Baileyの音楽と出会い、13才のジム少年はロンドンにBaileyを訪ねる。ギターの即興演奏に開眼し実験的要素の強い作品を発表、John Faheyの作品をプロデュースする一方でGastr Del SolやLoose Furなど地元シカゴのバンドやプロジェクトに参加、「シカゴ音響系」と呼ばれるカテゴリーを確立する。一方で、小杉武久と共に Merce Cunningham舞踏団の音楽を担当、トニー・コンラッド、Arnold Dreyblatt、Christian Wolffなどの作曲家との仕事で現代音楽とポストロックの橋渡しをする。1998年超現代的アメリカーナの系譜から『Bad Timing』、1999年、フォークやミニマル音楽などをミックスしたソロ・アルバム『Eureka』を発表、大きく注目される。1999年から2005年にかけてSonic Youthのメンバー、音楽監督として活動し、広範な支持を得る。2004年には、Wilcoの『A Ghost Is Born』のプロデューサーとしてグラミー賞を受賞、現代アメリカ音楽シーンを代表するクリエーターとして高く評価され、ヨーロッパでも数々のアーティストをプロデュースする。また、日本文化への造詣が深く、近年は東京に活動拠点を置く。日本でのプロデュース・ワークとしては、くるり、カヒミ・カリィ、石橋英子など多数。坂田明、大友良英、山本精一、ボアダムスなどとの共同作業や、武満徹作品『コロナ東京リアリゼーション』(2006)など現代音楽に至る多彩な作品をリリースしている。映像作家とのコラボレーションとしてWerner Herzog、Olivier Assayas、青山真治、若松考二などの監督作品のサウンドトラックを担当。ジム自身も映画監督として活動しており、彼の作品は、ホイットニー・ビエンナーレ、ロッテルダム映画祭で「重要作品」として上映されている。ソロアルバム『The Visitor』(2009)は『Bad Timing』の現代版と言える密室的ワンマン・アルバムの極致と言える。新しい「知」の探求者としてオルタナティヴ、ポストロック、エクスペリメンタル・ポップ、映画音楽、フリー・ミュージック、ジャズ、アメリカーナ、現代音楽など様々なジャンルの極北を切り開く越境的活動を行ない「現代東京カルチャー」の先導者となりつつある。2015年に13年半ぶりとなるヴォーカル・アルバム『Simple Songs』をリリース。海外の多くのメディアでベストアルバムに選出されている。

オーレン・アンバーチ
ギターやパーカッションを用いた実験音楽家で、1986年以来ライブパフォーマンスを行う。主にギターの可能性について焦点を当て、もはやそれとは分から ないような異質な抽象的領域へと楽器を再定義していく。オーストラリア最大の実験音楽の祭典である「What Is Music? フェスティバル」の共同ディレクターを務める。重量級絶望系ドローン・ノイズ・ユニットSUNN O))) にも参加するオーストラリアの鬼才。

1963年東京生まれ。音響構成および即興/非即興演奏による活動。未知の情感との邂逅を志向。音源発表はzero gravity、trumn、および自主レーベルからソロ作品、headzから横川理彦、杉本佳一と結成した「installing」の作品リリースなどがある。ベースギター演奏において、ディレイとボリュームペダルによる持続音奏法や、硬質なノンエフェクト倍音奏法の創出に功績。

澤井妙治
音、様々な環境下での音の与える効果にフォーカスし、新たなサウンド・インタラクションの可能性を追求する。2000年頃よりアートユニットportable[k]ommunity としての活動を始め、ソロ名義では超音波の領域を含むOscillatorを用いてオーディエンスの鼓膜を揺らすパフォーマンスや、Marshalアンプから煙を出すパフォーマンスを主に海外にて行う(Sonar Festival, STRP, NYC Stone)。EYE、真鍋大度らとのコラボレーションではセンサー/テクノロジーを用いたプロジェクト多数。広告の分野においては “[Sound of Honda / Ayrton Senna 1989](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0ZTPCoQ4jI)” を始め、サウンドディレクターとしてD&AD (Black Pencil)、Cannes Lionsなどで受賞多数。近年は高須光聖氏キュレーションのエキシビション壱万円展にて始めての音と電気を使わない作品制作や、楽器的ななにかを開発中。多重人格的に見える「音」への探究心溢れた活動は様々な分野から注目を浴びるきわめて稀な才能。

Keiji Haino
Born in Chiba on May 3, 1952. Inspired by Antonin Artaud he aimed for the theatre, but an encounter with The Doors stimulated him into music, where he has examined and absorbed a wide range of music from the early blues especially Blind Lemon Jefferson or European medieval music to popular songs across the world. In 1970 he joined a group “Lost Aaraaf” named after Edgar Allan Poe’s poem as a vocalist. Meanwhile, he started to work on home recordings and self-taught the guitar and percussions. In 1978 he formed a rock band “Fushitsusha,” and since 1988, after a recuperation period from 1983 to 1987, he has been internationally active in various forms including solo, groups such as Fushitsusha, Nijiumu, Aihiyo, Vajra, Sanhedrin, Seijaku, Nazoranai or The Hardy Rocks and DJ as “experimental mixture,” as well as collaborations with artists from different backgrounds, drawing the performance of the guitar, percussions, the hurdy gurdy, diverse wind and string instruments, local instruments from across the world and DJ gears to the extreme through unique techniques. He has released more than 170 recordings and performed live at least 1,500 times.

Jim O'Rourke
Born 1969 in Chicago. O’Rourke encountered the music of Derek Bailey as youngster and began visiting him in London at the age of 13. Eyes opened to the power of improvisational guitar, he released several of his own highly experimental works and has worked closely with John Fahey and Loren Mazzacane Connors. During his long association with the Chicago experimental and improv scene O’Rourke participated in several bands and projects including Gastr Del Sol and Loose Fur. His work with Takehisa Kosugi music director of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company as well as Tony Conrad, Arnold Dreyblatt, Christian Wolff and others built bridges between contemporary and popular music. O’Rourke’s release of landmark albums Bad Timing and Happy Days in 1997 and Eureka in 1999 garnered much attention. From 1999 to 2005 he was a member of Sonic Youth, playing bass, guitar and synthesizer as well as recording and mixing the band. In 2004 he won a Grammy Award for his production of Wilco’s A Ghost is Born. O’Rourke has also earned a loyal following for his participation in numerous albums by various artists around the world. He has a deep knowledge of Japanese culture and currently lives in Tokyo. Some of his many production credits in Japan include Quruli, Kahimi Karie, and Eiko Ishibashi. He also continues to be a consummate collaborator, working with Akira Sakata, Merzbow, Yoshihide Otomo, Seiichi Yamamoto, Boredoms and others. His recordings of Toru Takemitsu’s Corona for pianists Tokyo Realization was awarded the Agency for Cultural Affairs Arts Festival Award for Excellence in 2006. He has also scored films by Werner Herzog, Olivier Assayas, Shinji Aoyama, Koji Wakamatsu and others. His own short films have been part of the 2004 and 2006 Whitney Biennial and the 2005 Rotterdam Film Festival. O'Rourke is a diverse and powerful artist. Always searching, his borderless activity goes beyond the common labels Alternative, Post-rock, Experimental-pop, Film music, Free music, Jazz, Americana, Contemporary music and continues to defy classification.

Oren Ambarchi
Oren Ambarchi's works are hesitant and tense extended songforms located in the cracks between several schools: modern electronics and processing; laminal improvisation and minimalism; hushed, pensive songwriting; the deceptive simplicity and temporal suspensions of composers such as Morton Feldman and Alvin Lucier; and the physicality of rock music, slowed down and stripped back to its bare bones, abstracted and replaced with pure signal. Ambarchi has performed and recorded with a diverse array of artists such as Fennesz, Otomo Yoshihide, Pimmon, Keiji Haino, John Zorn, Rizili, Voice Crack, Jim O'Rourke, Keith Rowe, Phill Niblock, Dave Grohl, Gunter Muller, Evan Parker, z'ev, Toshimaru Nakamura, Peter Rehberg, Merzbow and many more. Since 2004 Ambarchi has worked with American avant metal outfit Sunn 0))) contributing to many of their releases and side-projects including their Black One album from 2005 and the recent Monoliths & Dimensions release. For 10 years together with Robbie Avenaim, Ambarchi was the co-organiser of the What Is Music? festival, Australia’s premier annual showcase of local and international experimental music. The festival hosted over 200 local and international performers. Ambarchi now curates the Maximum Arousal series at The Toff In Town in Melbourne and has recently co-produced an Australian television series on experimental music called Subsonics. Ambarchi recently co-curated the sound program for the 2008 Yokohama Triennale.
