3 (Julie Kjær 3)
![/sdlx/170519-julie.jpg](/sdlx/170519-julie.jpg)

(Liima)
![/sdlx/170519-lima.jpg](/sdlx/170519-lima.jpg)

(Merih Koç)
![/sdxl/igner.jpg](/sdlx/igner.jpg)
Visual artists Inger Scharff and Merih Koç are contributing to the venue with the space-specific piece “Gate”. The duo is concerned with human’s penchant for self-editing and fear of banalities and clichés. However, what seems banal often appears more complex and nuanced when we take a closer look.
The “GATE” consists of two fraternal sculptures that reflect each other. They have been formed so that they fit together. Their shapes depend on each other. They part from each other but they also belong together. Like culture to culture, people to people and artist/performer to audience/observer.
Through attention and honesty in the process the artists wanted to explore how they realized their ideas. The piece has been created with a point of no return attitude that resembles musicians playing a concert. Like musicians and audience always prepare, the artist have prepared in terms of materials,
dimensions, idioms and position in the room. After the preparations the piece was created in one improvisational take. The sculptures’ fragmented idiom is inspired by the structure of classical busts and sporadically applied gold leafs, not to cover but to frame and emphasize the process. Placed on each side of the stage, they are creating an illusion of a gate to the experience (the picture above shows the models).
Andreas Schulenburg
![/sdlx/andtres.jpg](/sdlx/andtres.jpg)
Andreas Schulenburg (1975) was born in Germany and was later educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Schulenburg works with several different genres and media – amongst other ceramics, drawing, felt and sculpture. Yet, his favoured media remains felt, which is used for both small objects, large sculptures and two dimensional pictures.

Julie Kjær 3
![/sdlx/170519-julie.jpg](/sdlx/170519-julie.jpg)
Saxophonist Julie kjær's edgy and thoughtful playing has become increasingly evident around Europe, inhabiting ground between composition and free improv. John Edwards is a true virtuoso whose staggering range of techniques and boundless musical imagination have redefined the possibility of the double bass. Steve Noble is London's leading drummer, a fearless and constantly inventive improviser. The trio explores the improvised world in all its aspects with drive and invention, moving from wild and intense passages, odd and peculiar moods to sections of subtlety and beauty. Experimenting with rhythms and sounds the trio pushes their instruments to the limits.

Liima
![/sdlx/170519-lima.jpg](/sdlx/170519-lima.jpg)
Liima is a new Danish band made up of the highly succesful Danish band Efterklang and the Finnish percussionist Tatu Rönkkö. The debut album “ii” includes songs written in Finland, Berlin, Istanbul and Madeira during weeklong residencies that all ended with a concert with the new songs. Each place has affected the sound, sometimes literally in the form of samples and field recordings. It is in the DNA of the band to seek out new places to be inspired by, and to incorporate their experience of a given place into the way they write and perform music. Japan will be a great source of inspiration for Liima, who will in return give a very inclusive and personal concert to the audience. Liima’s albums are released and promoted in Japan by Hostess Ent. and Liima are friends and connected with musicians in Japan like Tenniscoats, Kama Aina, Nikaido Kazumi, Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Lullatone, Shugo Tokumaru and many more.
