Pink Soup Party is annual celebration of Lithuanian music and food. Renowned musicians – Daisuke Tanabe, Takeshi Nishimoto, Kazuhide Yamaji, aus / Yasuhiko Fukuzono and video artist Kazumasa Teshigawara / qubibi have all visited Lithuania in recent years. And now come under one roof to share their experiences through art and music.

The title of event comes from traditional Lithuanian dish – cold beetroot soup, also called Pink Soup. Every guest will have a chance to taste a bowlful of the soup and meet Lithuanian artists!

Daisuke Tanabe

“Every single piece of sound has got character,” says Japanese electronica producer Daisuke Tanabe, explaining his ear for music and the choices he makes with sound design. The former art student who also lived and worked in London for some years is currently based in Tokyo, where he assembles his exceptional pieces of music. Originally coming from a techno/breakbeat background, Daisuke has developed his own style of production to create a distinctive sound between hiphop, electronica, folk and jazz. During his time in the UK, he published for Gilles Peterson’s famous Brownswood label and performed together with Zero DB, some of the leading lights in the UK breakbeat scene. On a recent Japan tour with French hiphop instrumentalist ONRA, he once again knew to impress the audience with his unique melange of jazz, electronica and hiphop. When performing live, Daisuke succeeds in combining his instrumental tracks with hiphop acappellas and creates an extraordinary atmosphere.

Takeshi Nishimoto

Takeshi Nishimoto (born in Fukuoka, Japan) is a classically-trained guitarist and composer who is conversant with European, Northern Indian, and American jazz classical traditions. In addition to collaborations with diverse artists late sitar master Rahul Sakyaputra to I’m Not a Gun associate John Tejada, Nishimoto has also performed extensively as a solo artist. Nishimoto’s second solo album, Lavandula was released from Berlin based Record Label, Sonic Pieces in 2013. Spent more than a decade in Germany, Takeshi has recently come back to tremble Japan with his soulful music vibes. Currently Takeshi is involved in many projects in Japan, ranging from soundtracks to gallery – based sound installations. His unique style of guitar playing makes him both a much sought after collaborator and mentor for a broad range of musical projects

Kazuhide Yamaji

Yamaji is a Japanese guitarist, vocalist, composer, producer, he has over 30 years of experience. In 1987, he started music under the influence of musicians like Television, The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Neil Young, Neu! and so on. The Guitar Magazine, known as one of the most famous musical publications in Japan, ranked Yamaji at 49th in list the “Greatest 100 Guitarists of All Time in Japan” in 2017. And in 1991, he formed a 3-piece band called “dip” with Yasushi Nagata (b), Noriyuki Nakanishi (ds). The band has been active for over 20 years, released 12 albums and is well respected by a lot of enthusiastic fans and followers in Japan. Besides that, Yamaji’s own solo activities and works are also highly acclaimed. Yamaji has released four albums and more than 20 CD-Rs as a solo musician. As a guitarist, he is highly regarded as a great improviser and played with famous and great musicians Keiji Haino, Tom Verlaine, etc. As a film music composer, Yamaji composed and performed in several movies such as “9souls” and “Tokyo Rampage (known as “pornostar” in Japanese)” by Toshiaki Toyoda, a Japanese film director.

Yasuhiko Fukuzono – aus

aus is the solo project of Yasuhiko Fukuzono of Tokyo, Japan. Fukuzono has gained attention worldwide through his skillful and delicate sound production, exquisitely combining electronics with sounds from daily life. The music video of the track ‘With Rain’ (included in the album Curveland) made by TAKCOM was nominated in the music video category at the world famous visual festival Aurora 2007 (along with Beck, Zero7 and Subtle). As DJ, aus made the mixtape for i-D Magazine, The FADER, The 405, DUMMY, Fluid Radio and International Tapes. aus loves to re-discover and re-invent the nature of the sounds around him, over and over again. “It gives birth to new nature by changing the nature” quoted by this quirky composer. Acquiring his inspirations from all over the places – images that his mind captured from movies, words that he stumbled upon, pieces of music that drop out from TV and radio, nomadic dreams, long lost memories and indescribable inner feelings – Fukuzono writes music that illustrate the detailed movements of life. and quite often, he illustrates, with his subtle music skills, in films too.

Kazumasa Teshigawara / qubibi

Kazumasa Teshigawara is a Japanese art director, designer, creating under the name of Qubibi. A self-taught programmer creates digital media artworks combining a great variety of styles, that have the power to move the soul. Quibibi’s exhibitions are usually fully immersive and interactive: viewers explore and experiment with several installments between a series of rooms. Most installments are sensitive to either sound or touch, often morphing and changing shape in reaction to the viewer, thus always dynamic. Qubibi’s live audiovisual performances combines a great variety of styles into limitless and unforgettable visual fantasies. Having himself a somewhat difficult past (living without a father, being taken around the bars, skipping school, playing video games all day long alone at home, getting hurt), Qubibi now uses his struggles in life as raw material to build touching digital artworks. Having worked with big media agencies and famous brands, Kazumasa’s works have been acknowledged throughout the world – among other media arts awards he has been granted Cannes Lion.
