「MICROCOSMIC `KAGURA`: Sonic Journey with Insects」
A captivating exploration of the microcosmic world through the lens of insects, brought to life by filmmaker Satoshi Kuribayashi’s innovative “Kuri-Vision” in collaboration with live performances of original compositions from multi-instrumentalist musicians Torahiko Yukawa and e°murasaki (Yasutaka Mizunaga). Join us for a mesmerizing multi-sensory journey into the magical realm of the microcosmos.

A small workshop to make ornaments using plants from the Rooftop Garden. Plants and paper cut flowers will be combined to make window ornaments that sway in the breeze.

Performers

Satoshi Kuribayashi (Ecological Photographer and Filmmaker)

Born in 1939, currently resides in Tahira-cho, Nagasaki. He developed his own photographic equipment known as “Kuri-Vision,” an insect-eye camera combined with an ultra-deep close-up lens, to record images of bio-ecology, mainly insects. In 2006 he was the first Japanese to win the “Lennart Nilsson Prize,” often compared to the Nobel Prize in scientific photography, and in 2008 he received the Japanese “Purple Ribbon”. He continues taking photographs on sunny days with the new Kuri-Vision equipment developed in recent years.

Torahiko Yukawa (Nagauta singer, Shamisen, Sound Effects)

A versatile artist known for his expertise in traditional Nagauta singing, Shamisen playing, and sound effects. He is renowned for exploring contrasts in his music, using both acoustic and electric instruments. Yukawa collaborates with artists from various genres, including flower arrangers and dancers, and has performed in diverse venues such as Kabuki performances, classical music concerts, and live houses. He also created a commissioned work for the Royal Conservatorium of Ballet in the Netherlands.

e°murasaki (Yasutaka Mizunaga)

A solo project started in 2024 by Yasutaka Mizunaga, singer, producer, and strings player.
Born in Miyazaki to a father who runs a photo studio and is a Jazz and Western music geek. He has been writing lyrics and composing music and playing in bands since middle school. He studied pop, classical, and Japanese music during his college years.
Moved to London for 2 years from 2015. Active as a guitarist in Europe, USA, China, Korea, and other parts of the world. Based in Tokyo from 2019
Worked with various musicians such as Night Tempo, Jerome Thomas, Doi Mariko (YUCK), Kitri, Yun*chi, Drunken Angel, etc., and is currently working as a solo artist.
His 2nd single “Insects Call” was released on April 24, 2024.
