Konnekt @ SupernaturalDeluxe offers a web of interconnected experiences set within the peaceful surroundings of a traditional kura in Kamogawa. Across two days, you’ll drift between ambient soundscapes, electroacoustic improvisations, site-specific interventions, shared meals and unexpected encounters.

Whether you’re out in the garden, tucked into a quiet side room, or enveloped by sound in the resonant Hiiregura Hall, each moment is an invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and enjoy the connection between sound, space, and community.

FDF Trio (sax, piano, drums)

Formed in 2022, the FDF trio has developed a poetic and powerful complicity. Nicolas Field (drums, CH/UK), John Dikeman (saxophone, USA), Thomas Florin (piano, CH). The FDF trio puts together three of the finest players of the impro scene, always eager for new sonic adventures. Giving a great weight to the unexpected and the unpredictable, the three improvisers find their expressiveness in the mass of swirling sound textures as well as in the sharp contours of complex rhythmic cells. The purely acoustic format, explored in its full range of densities, right down to its extremes, makes for a highly responsive sound. Over the course of their international tours, the trio has developed a musical chemistry that’s as sharp as it is energetic. A debut album Drag It To The Bottom was unveiled during a tour of Japan in May 2023. In 2024, the trio toured the USA in places like Black Mountain College (Asheville), and Hungry Brain (Chicago). FDF Trio then premiered their new album Possibility and Prejudices from Within a Cup (LP, Konnekt) in Switzerland in October 2024.

Taketeru Kudo (dance)

Born in Tokyo in 1967. Graduated from Keio University with a degree in French literature. While at university, he studied theater, contemporary dance, and traditional Japanese dance, but a pivotal encounter with butoh in 1989 set the course for his future. After performing in works by Kōichi Tamano and Yukio Waguri, he began his solo career in 1992. From 1995 to 1998, he was a member of Sankai Juku. In 1997, he founded his own collective, Tokyo Gienkan. While collaborating with artists and companies across various disciplines, he continues to perform solo extensively around the world.

Cal Lyall

Cal Lyall is a Tokyo-based guitarist and sound artist focusing on improvisation, spatialization and urban noise. His musical activities are documented on over 50 albums he has both produced and contributed to as a writer or musician. As a curator, he established the monthly Test Tone concert series in 2005 at Tokyo’s SuperDeluxe, featuring over a thousand distinct artists over its 10-year run. With an active performance schedule in Japan and past tours through Africa, North America, Asia, Australia, Europe and the Middle East, he also heads up the Subvalent record label and oversees the Tokyo Hub of Jolt Sonic Arts (Australia).
For this special edition of Konnekt, he will present Field Tones—an outdoor multichannel sound installation built into the surrounding environment. The installation will also include works by other artists as part of the event’s collaborative focus.

Ryo Kusunose (sax)

Born and raised in Konan City, Kochi Prefecture. As a child, he enjoyed catching insects and crafting. During university, he focused on classical music and improvisational performance. In recent years, he has dedicated himself to creating and performing music in various forms within the Kanto area. Currently, his focus is on observing and reinterpreting his accumulated experiences. He graduated from the Instrumental Music Department of Tokyo Geidai.

Dancer / Choreographer / Certified Trainer of GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®
Born in Shizuoka. Mako started ballet at Maeda Ballet Academy from an early age. Graduated from Nihon University College of Art, Department of Theater. As a founding member of Strange Kinoko Dance Company she performed in all their domestic and overseas productions between 1990 until 2009. As a choreographer and solo dancer, she has appeared in music videos and live performances by Kuchiroro, UA, and Buffalo Daughter. She has worked with a variety of artists like KYOTARO, HAMADARAKA, Yuko Kanatani, Tatsuhisa Yamamoto, and Tetsu Saito. Living in Minamiboso, Chiba since 2020.

Laurent Valdès (visuals)

Laurent Valdès is an artist and video-maker. After graduating from the Beaux-Arts in Geneva with a degree in cinema, he completed his training with a master’s in visual arts at what is now the HEAD a few years later. His artistic approach, linked to space and narrative, is presented in performances, installations, stagings and books. He is also conducting research into the memories of “inhabiting”, in which he questions all traces, whether material, literary or audiovisual, questions that he applies to Hong Kong and Japan, where he has stayed on several occasions. At the same time, from 2008 to 2018, he worked as a publisher with A-Type, which he co-founded, and since 2021 with Alexandre Chollier as part of the Permacriture project. Kokoro No Oku Soko is part of a series of past and future projects and research: Persistent Shadow (Halle Nord, 2016), All We Leave is A Memory (Milkshake Agency, 2016), Riniamento (Milkshake Agency, 2019), Mitholzwege (2020–) and Surfacing (2023– ).

Jamie Lee Reed (Yoga)

Jamie Lee Reed is a yoga instructor and interdisciplinary artist whose practice integrates movement, sound, and self-inquiry. Drawing from a background in yoga, kung fu, and artistic exploration, her approach supports gentle transformation through awareness of the subtle body. She encourages students to explore practices at their own pace and in ways that serve their personal growth and creativity.

Yoann Moreau

Yoann Moreau is an anthropologist and playwright, assistant professor at the Centre de recherche sur les risques et les crises (CRC, Mines ParisTech). Associated with the Institut interdisciplinaire d’anthropologie du contemporain (Centre Edgar Morin-EHESS/CNRS) and the Laboratoire d’anthropologie sociale (Anthropologie de la perception-EHESS/Collège de France), his research focuses on major hazards, the dramaturgy of knowledge, DIY, extreme situations and mesology (the study of environments). He is currently living in Japan as part of a research programme on ways of living in abandoned territories. He is also a playwright (with the Jours Tranquilles company, Fabrice Gorgerat) and has recently devoted his last four plays to “unspectacular” disasters.
