Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra

The Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra (AMEO) is a distinctive and unconventional large ensembles founded in Berlin in 2006. After four acclaimed albums and over 250 concerts in 25 countries on four continents, it is currently a twelve-member group that can morph its formation flexibly. It performs mainly compositions by founder Daniel Glatzel, which consistently cross and expand musical boundaries. AMEO draws from a colorful spectrum of jazz, traditional music styles from around the world, avant-garde, independent, and electronica – “yet it sounds as if it belongs to an entirely new sub-genre of its own” (Jazzwise).

The Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra has collaborated with, among others, Hermeto Pascoal, indigenous musicians from Malawi, The Notwist, Efterklang, Sinfonietta Riga, and Anthony Braxton, and has independently produced several festivals and special projects.

2026 marks the 20th anniversary of this ever-evolving and unique ensemble, which will be celebrated with an album-release and several international tours, including Asia, Europe and UK with performances at London Jazzfest, Berghain, Jarasum Jazz Festival in Korea, and more.

The Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra was the first-ever recipient of the German Jazz Prize for “Large Ensembles of the Year” in 2021, was nominated again as “Ensemble of the Year” in 2024, and was once more awarded “Live Act of the Year” in 2025.

AMEO has given concerts, in some cases multiple times, in the grand concert halls of Berlin, Cologne, and Elbphilharmonie, Roskilde Festival, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Zurich Festival, Union Chapel London, Cairo Jazz Festival, Rigas Ritmi, Sant’Anna Arresi, Paradiso Amsterdam and many more.
