ザ・ジョーディー・アプローチ（The Geordie Approach）はノルウェー人ミュージシャンのピー ター・フロスト・ファドネスとストーレ・ビルケランドが、イギリス北東部の「ジョーディー」出身のギタリスト、クリス・シャーキーと結成したエクスペリメンタル・ジャズ／ロックトリオ。妥協を許さず、実験を愛する三人は、即興の自由な枠組みの中で音楽を追求し、驚くほど多彩な要素を自らの音世界に取り込んでみせ、ステージで実に独創的に振る舞う。彼らは他とは違う独自の到達点を目指して努力を重ね、その演奏はメロディとノイズ、アンビエントなグルーヴと抽象的なテクスチャーの間を自在に動き回り、相反する形の世界観を融合させて行く。三人は2007年にブルースズ・フィンガーズからデビュー・アルバム『Why Eye』をリリースし、そのエッジの効いたサウンドはノルウェーとイギリスをはじめ世界各地で賞賛を得ることとなりました。2013年には再びブルースズ・フィンガーズからセカンド・アルバム『Inatween』をリリース。2014年には初のジャパン・ツアーを果たし、そして3枚目のアルバムを引き下げ、満を持しての2度目のジャパン・ツアーとなる今年。数々の脅威の一夜を生み出してきた彼らの真骨頂とも呼べる貴重なライブ・パフォーマンスをこの機会にぜひとも体感してください！（写真：塩田正幸）

八木美知依（エレクトリック21弦箏、17弦ベース箏、エレクトロニクス、歌）
邦楽はもちろん、前衛ジャズや現代音楽からロックやポップまで幅広く活動するハイパー箏（こと）奏者。故・沢井忠夫、沢井一恵に師事。NHK邦楽技能者育成会卒業後、ウェスリアン大学客員教授として渡米中、ジョン・ケージやジョン・ゾーンらに影響を受ける。ゾーンのプロデュースによるソロ・アルバム『Shizuku』（99年）を皮切りに、自己の箏アンサンブルとの『ゆらる』（01年）、17絃ソロ作『Seventeen』（05年）、インゲブリグト・ホーケル・フラーテン（b）とポール・ニルセン・ラヴ（ds）を迎えた『ライヴ！アット・スーパーデラックス』（06年）をリリース。06年にペーター・ブロッツマン（s）、ポール・ニルセン・ラヴとトリオを結成し、『Head On』（08年）と『ヴォルダ』（10年）をリリース。最新作はエリオット・シャープ（g）とのデュオ作『リフレクションズ』（10年）。08年、ラヴィ・シャンカール、パコ・デ・ルシアらと共に英国のワールドミュージック誌 “Songlines” の《世界の最も優れた演奏家50人》に選ばれる。Moers Jazz Festival（ドイツ）、Vision Festival（米国）、Kongsberg Jazz Festival（ノルウェー）、Újbuda Jazz Festival（ハンガリー）、Music Unlimited（オーストリア）、Instal（イギリス）等に出演。世界のトップ・インプロヴァイザーと共演するかたわら、プログレッシヴ・ロック・アーティストのスティーヴン・ウィルソン（Porcupine Tree）、アコーディオン奏者のcoba、更に浜崎あゆみ、アンジェラ・アキやTakuya（元Judy & Mary）といったJ-POPアーティストのレコーディングやステージにも参加。現在は本田珠也（ds）、田中徳崇（ds）、トッド・ニコルソン（b）、須川崇志（b）と結成した《八木美知依ダブル・トリオ》を活動の核とし、オリジナル曲を中心としたレパートリーを聴かせている。

The Geordie Approach
The Geordie Approach is a collaboration between the two Norwegian musicians Petter Frost Fadnes (sax) and Ståle Birkeland (drums), teamed up with guitarist Chris Sharkey, a Geordie born and bred. This uncompromising and experimental trio pursues music within loose improvisational structures, adding a surprisingly broad range of flavors to their overall sound world. Their creative ideas grow within a large and open musical ‘space’, and the trio has a reputation for adapting and utilizing their performance space in an extremely effective and engaging manner. In their untiring quest for brilliant and unusual musical destinations – Birkeland, Frost Fadnes and Sharkey produce musical elements that often are contradictory in shape, moving between melody and noise, ambient grooves and abstract textures. The Geordie Approach released their debut album “Why Eye” on Simon Fell’s French label Bruce’s Fingers back in 2007. The album generated great reviews in both Norway and The UK, as well as several other corners of the world. In 2013 their second album “Inatween” featuring artwork by Tetsuya Nagato was also released on Bruce’s Fingers and was the venerable label’s first release on vinyl since 1991. Michiyo Yagi (electric 21-string koto, 17-string bass koto, electronics, voice)
Michiyo Yagi studied koto under Tadao Sawai, Kazue Sawai and Satomi Kurauchi, and graduated from the NHK Professional Training School for Traditional Musicians. Between 1989 and 1990, during her tenure as Visiting Professor of Music at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, U.S.A., she premiered numerous modern compositions for koto and came under the influence of maverick American composers such as John Cage, Conlon Nancarrow, and John Zorn. Her solo koto CD Shizuku was produced by Zorn and released on the Tzadik label in 1999. In 2001 she recorded “Yural” with her koto ensemble Paulownia Crush for the East Works label. Under the auspices of the Japan Foundation, Yagi toured Russia with this ensemble in the fall of 2004. Yagi is one of the few improvising koto players on the international stage. She has performed with Mark Dresser, John Zorn, Peter Brötzmann, Elliott Sharp, Han Bennink, Akira Sakata, Kazuhisa Uchihashi (Altered States), Natsuki Kido (Bondage Fruit), Fred Frith, Chris Cutler, Otomo Yoshihide, Saadet Turkoz, Ned Rothenberg, Hoppy Kamiyama, Samm Bennett, Yuji Katsui (Rovo), Lauren Newton, Hans Reichel, Sabu Toyozumi, Mino Cinelu, Satoko Fujii, Joëlle Léandre, Tatsuya Yoshida (Ruins), Bill Laswell, Kazutoki Umezu, Carl Stone, Kang Tae Hwan, Christian Marclay, Koichi Makigami, Zeena Parkins, Masahiko Satoh, Billy Bang, Keiji Haino, Jason Roebke, Sachiko M, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, Paal Nilssen-Love, MZN3 (Kjetil Møster, Per Zanussi, Kjell Nordeson), Chris Mosdell, Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), WHO Trio, Mani Neumeier and many others.
