Eiko Ishibashi

Eiko Ishibashi is a Japanese multi-instrumentalist whose work ranges from acclaimed singer-songwriter albums to scores for film, television, theater and exhibitions, to improvised music.
Since launching her solo career in 2006, she has released numerous albums on labels including Drag City, Black Truffle, and Editions Mego. Her sixth full-length album The Dream My Bones Dream, released in 2018, was selected as one of the year’s best albums by numerous magazines. In 2020, she was commissioned to create music for art and photography exhibitions, such as the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ Japan supernatural, and Memory of Future at Mandako coal mine in Kumamoto, Japan.
In 2016, Ishibashi branched out into film composing, creating the score for the film Albino’s Tree, directed by Masakazu Kaneko, which won the Best Music Award at the Cinalfama Lisbon International Film Awards. In 2019, she composed the music for the anime Mugen no Juunin – IMMORTAL. Her score for Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s 2021 film Drive My Car has garnered international attention and was recently arranged into an album incorporating sound effects from the film.
In January 2022, she released her new LP, For McCoy on Black Truffle, and began a radio residency on the global radio platform NTS Radio.

Tatsuhisa Yamamoto

Tatsuhisa Yamamoto is a drummer from Yamaguchi, Japan well known throughout the country for his work with a surprisingly wide range of musicians and theatre groups. He performed on the acclaimed Drag City records “The Dreams My Bones Dream” by Eiko Ishibashi, “Simple Songs” by Jim O’Rourke, and with several Japanese singers including Ichiko Aoba, UA, Kahimi Karie, Tavito Nanao, phew, Kenta Maeno, and Seiichi Yamamoto.
His wide interests have led him to be drummer of choice for Free Jazz legend Akira Sakata, as well as composer/performer in many restagings of Terayama Shuji’s works, film scores for NHK, and regular performances with artists as wide ranging as Keiji Haino, Oren Ambarchi, Giovanni Di Domenico and more. He has toured extensively throughout Europe in improvised music settings and with the theatre group Swanny. His 2020 release, ashioto on Black Truffle Records was selected as 2020’s Best Underground Record by MOJO Magazine.

Akira Sakata (sax, clarinet, voc.)

Akira Sakata was born in Kure-city, Hiroshima in 1945. Studied marine biology at Hiroshima university. Formed a group Saibo-bunretsu (Cell fission) in Tokyo in 1969, and was also performing with various free-jazz musicians during this time. Since the late 1960s, Sakata has been a constant figure in jazz and creative music scenes as an ever evolving and adventurous, multi-instrumentalist, and member of classic groups such as Yamashita Yosuke Trio, from 1972 till 1979, and Wha-ha-ha plus many of his own, like the Sakata Akira mii. He has recorded with Chris Cosey, Peter Brotzmann in Last Exit, DJ Krush, Yoshimio, and others.
In 2005 he began peforming with guitarist Jim O’Rourke, drummer Chris Corsano and acoustic bassist Darin Gray. They’ve since released three albums together. Friendly Pants is the first American release by Sakata in more than 20 years. It pairs the 65-year-old traveler alongside bombast Chikamorachi (Corsano/Gray) and O’Rourke as the producer.
