ONE HOUR STANDING FOR

by Michikazu Matsune and David Subal

On the boundaries between performing and visual arts, One Hour Standing For by Michikazu Matsune and David Subal is a performance and video project in 24 world capitals flashing a paradoxical statement about movement through standing still. Asking “where are we and where is the world going?”, both artists first took up their positions in front of major tourist attractions in world capitals – as living but motionless monuments to oppose the flood of tourists and to reflect the movements of today’s society.

Look Look

by Krõõt Juurak and Anne Juren

In Look Look, estonian performer Krõõt Juurak and French performer Anne Juren – both based in Vienna - translate the creative process presented in the world of fashion into choreography. In the form of a fashion show, they stage the techniques of designer Eva Blut and the differences of catwalk attitudes, when the same clothes are worn by two different people. both dancers’ poses are inspired by the clothing. Body and image change, shifting from stereotypical fashion figures to everyday postures.

PATRICK PULSINGER ist the true pioneer of Austria's electronic music scene. He is known as an open-minded producer for labels like Disko B, Mo'Wax, K7 and Gigolo, as DJ with a worldwide reputation and as studio wizard recording with Mark Stewart and Chicks On Speed, and remixing for the likes of Pet Shop Boys or DJ Hell. Since the early 90s, Patrick is shaping the face of Europe's Techno and Electronica scene with landmarks such as his label Cheap records, the classic “Claire“ tune under his I/O moniker for Mo'Wax and the influential Dogmatic Sequences for Disko B. He has been busy composing moviescores and remixing Tschaikowski's “Schwanensee” together with Erdem Tunakan. "That's the groove here in Vienna," he says, "there's a kind of charm. We don't take things too seriously, it's kind of surreal. That's what free music is all about."

Dorian Concept (kindred spirits)

When it comes to my music making, I combine that essential childlike playfulness with a big pair of booties. Watch 'em come!
DORIAN CONCEPT is Vienna's electronic shooting star of the moment. Supported by Gilles Peterson, he conquered all major electronic music festivals in the last year, from Sonar to Spring 09 and Wilsonic, featuring his breathtaking one-man-beatmaker live show, something between abstract Atari sounds, old School Techno and Hip Hop glitch breaks.
He brings his exemplary production skills to the live stage with Ableton and his trusty Minikorg keyboard. Having dropped an EP on Treble O, and with one lined up on Rush Hour's Nod Navigators series (kindred spirits), Dorian's mix of sticky funk and twisted
electronic chords is doffing a cap to experimental hip hop, jazz, funk and electronica. When it comes to his music making, DORIAN CONCEPT combines that essential childlike playfulness with a big pair of booties. Watch 'em come!

With my lovely voice I have put an extra portion of mellow soul madness in many a music production 'made in Austria'.
Stephanie Zamagna is our charming Conférencier for the SPOT ON WIEN nights. She is working in Vienna as a professional singer covering a wide variety of musical styles, from Jazz to Disco, from Electronica to House music. In 2003 Stephanie Zamagna started studying Jazz and singing at the Gustav Mahler Conservatoire in Vienna. Her main influence is classical soul music from Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, Erykah Badu or even Sade. With her lovely voice she has put an extra portion of mellow soul madness in many a music production 'made in Austria'. Madrid de los Austrias and Karl Möstl are two of the several acts which have worked with Stephanie's voice by now. You can easi-
ly bump into one of her shows, when discovering Vienna's nightlife, as she is frequently playing live with her disco band DE ZAMAGNA in different clubs of the city.

Felix Leiter is a paradise bird, when it comes to musical styles and ideas. He is has been living his dream with loads of projects for the past 15 years. He is founding member, co-producer and live keyboarder of the „Waxolutionists“, one of the creative people behind Viennese broken beat imprint Circus, and keyboarder and founder of the session outfit “60 Minuts of Funk“. He works with Vienna-based techno producer Ken Hayakawa and enjoys joint ventures with Stuttgart-based producer Danilo Plessow of „Motor City Drum Ensemble“. Not to forget his radio show! „313“ on Superfly. fm, promoting club nights in Vienna, and the supercity.at blog. And last but not least his outing as a DJ: His DJ style is similar to his wide producer ambitions: freestyle from Broken Beat to Deep House, Detroit Techno to Underground Hip Hop. 7 Samurai presents PANOPTIKUM (compost records)]

As true music archaeologists we are committed to keeping lost music gems alive. Producer and DJ duo Tom Wieland (Vienna) & Marc Frank (Augsburg) are long time friends who got addicted to music at an early age and socialized in a similar subculture cosmos. 9 years ago they started recording as Les Gammas for Compost records, touring around the globe with their live band or as DJs. Their TRANS EUROPA EXPRESS radio show is on air in 7 countries. By now they have penned numerous remixes and productions as Dubben,
7 Samurai or PanOptikum, monikers they use for their various styles – from dub techno to Brazilian dancehall and disco reggae. As true music archaeologists they are committed to keeping lost music gems alive: proof of it are the sought-after compilations on rare Cuban afro-funk, Hungarian 60s modal jazz or European 80s space disco. This deep love for music results in Tom ́s radioshow TRANS EUROPA EXPRESS, on air in 7 European countries. PanOptikum is their latest project. Named after an Austrian TV series from the 70s, it focuses on deep, soulful techno, house and dizko. A full album is in the pipeline.
